The Publishing Pathway

The PublishU publishing pathway is a 12-step journey from contracting to global publication. We will guide and support you every step of the pathway so you always know what is going on and what is expected of you next:

Step #1: Contracting - Discuss and agree on a Manuscript Submission Date and corresponding Global Publishing Date with PublishU. Sign the contract and pay the deposit to secure your submission and publishing dates.

‍Step #2: Submission - Submit the book manuscript and additional information to PublishU, following our template and guidelines.

‍Step #3: Review - Review your submission, particularly the title, subtitle and other content, to ensure it is ready for cover design. The book is allocated an international product code known as an ISBN.

‍Step #4: Cover Design - Based on the author’s brief, two possible creative directions are proposed. Following option choice and feedback, the whole cover is designed.

‍Step #5: Cover Sign-Off - Author sign-off on the cover design as ‘ready for print’.

‍Step #6: Copy Edit - Copy edit of the manuscript, either a) Standard Service: a light copy edit making minor wording and grammatical changes without author review, or b) Premium 'Developmental Edit' Service a more in-depth edit.

Step #7: Proofread - A professional proofread of the edited book manuscript.

‍Step #8: Manuscript Sign-Off - Author sign-off on the final book manuscript as ‘ready for typeset’.‍

Step #9: Typeset for Paperback - The final copy of the edited and proofread manuscript is typeset in paperback and Kindle (with the option of Hardback) and made ready for publication.‍

Step #10: Publication Sign-Off - Author sign-off of the final typesets of the book as ‘ready for print’.‍

Step #11: Cover Adjustment - The cover design is adjusted now for the final width of the book’s spine.‍

Step #12: Global Publication - The book in paperback and Kindle (and Hardback if selected) is published on Amazon so that it is live on the Global Publication Date.

Royalties

Retail sales of your book attract author royalties of approximately 35% of the cover price. This varies depending on your book's format, number of words, use of colour and images. PublishU charges 15% net (on author royalties) the equivalent of 5.8% gross (on the book's price) as an agency fee on royalties; this is deducted before your 35%. Book delivery (in most developed countries) is 24-48 hours.

Wholesale ‘author copies’ of your book are available at approximately 40% of the cover price on a standard paperback. You can make a margin of roughly 60% on direct sales. Again, this varies according to your book's format, number of words, use of colour and images. PublishU charges a 15% agency fee on author copy purchases. These can be ordered via PublishU on your book's publication day and, thereafter, once a month. Delivery is generally within 14 days.
